Durga (Rakhee) wails and cries banging her head in Kali's temple, begging the deity to give her sons, Karan (Salman Khan) and Arjun (Shah Rukh Khan) back to her, the innocent sons, who have been brutally murdered by Thakur Durjan Singh (Amrish Puri) and his men. But can the dead rise, can a life extinguished be rekindled into existence again and can the departed souls come back?

They say faith can move mountains, the same way Durga's rigid and sincere faith in her deity, her heart-rending pleas shake the Cosmos, The skies thunder with lighting - her prayer have been heard, her wishes granted, The impossible has become possible, and the dead are born again as Ajay (Salman Khan) and Vijay (Shah Rukh Khan) to different mothers. One to become a great fighter, and the other a superb rider and a debonair lover of Soniya (Kajol) whose father Saxena (Ranjeet) is Durjan Singh's partner dealing in illegal arms and Durjan Singh's son Suraj (Asif Sheikh) is engaged to be married to Sonia.

On the other hand Ajay, after his torturous childhood and the death of his drunkard father lives alone in the basti with Bindiya (Mamta Kulkarni) his childhood companion being madly in love with hem. But Ajay is non-committed to her advances as is only interested in being a top fighter.

The matter becomes serious when Suraj sees Sonia in Vijay's arms, attacks the stable, burning it and injuring Pestonjee (Dinesh Hingoo), the owner, who has brought Vijay up since childhood. Vijay in burning anger crashes into Sonia and Suraj's engagement party and thrashes Suraj around, but Sonia's father who has engaged Ajay as a strong-arm man sets him on the rampaging Vijay. The Brothers not knowing each other fight terribly, putting Durga's lifelong dream of getting her sons back in jeopardy. But divine intervention forces the brothers apart. The Police arrive and in the confusion Ajay makes Vijay run away but he himself is arrested and put behind bars.

Sonia is taken away to Durjan Singh's Haveli in the desert land to be married to Suraj. The news reaches Vijay and he goes after her. As he reaches the land where Durga waits for her sons, the hallucinations which used to haunt him since childhood became clues and lead him to his mother Durga. The veil of lost memory is lifted as he looks at her face. The miracle has happened - but where is the other son-why hasn't he come?

How Vijay brings to the village?
Does Ajay accept Durga as his mother?
How they take their revenge?

The answers to all these and more, on the silver screen in "KARAN ARJUN".
